Last night I attended the Wonder Fools Youth Board presentation of Revolting by Bryony Kimmings at the Traverse.

This unique version of Revolting was devised by a group of 20 young theatre makers from across Scotland. Since last Summer this cohort have been working together alongside seven UK writers who were co-commissioned as part of the Positive Stories for Negative Times: Season 2.

Bryony Kimmings Revolting is a self-generating play where you are able to follow her map on how to create your own play that is autobiographical. Kimmings is known for creating work that is bold and challenges her audiences to leave the theatre with a new perspective.

The performance the youth board presented was full of energy and truly the epitome of everything live theatre should be. It had me laughing, crying and everything in between. Every member of the company had the audience in the palm of their hands and they really immersed us in their stories. The collective was well established and they all seemed to thrive off of each other’s energy.

The piece itself followed a narrative having each member of the board sharing something for two weeks and despite the number of different experiences that were shared, they all seemed to fit seamlessly into the next. Ranging from serious heartfelt monologues into a Cher performance full of Cher related puns.

Overall, it was an excellent evening and the Wonder Fools Youth Board created a standout performance that was poignant and fun but also challenged its audience to think about how important it is to share. In their words "We need to fucking share".

The youth board was comprised of Molly Bryson, Eve Dixon Batchelor, Arron Greechan, Ava Hickey, Catriona Hill, Sophie Jacome, Carley Mackie, Vicky McRae, Gregor McMillian, Mollie Milne, Morna Ross, Leo Shak, Danny Taggart, Lucy Wilson.

The piece was co- directed by Robbie Gordon and Jack Nurse the co-founders of Wonder Fools.
